Awesome Bucket 2018

My sixth annual list of, well, annual goals.

So far, the yearly Awesome Bucketing process helped me bring home an MBA, two Ironman medals, handstands, daily habits of writing and meditation, and a solved rubik’s cube, among other accomplishments.

To keep the Awesome Bucket momentum going, here’s my list of goals to ensure an interesting and exciting 2018.

1. Get really smart at math

Two years removed from the MBA grind I’m back to hitting the books in my free time. I’m a writer at my core, but I work a lot with numbers too and I want to strengthen that quantitative side of my brain by taking math classes on the side, while working full time. On the docket: Calculus, Structures, and…wait for it…Differential Equations.

2. Deadlift 300 pounds

Simple enough. Using the book Starting Strength as my guide.

3. Simple and Sinister Kettlebells

Aiming for 10 x 10 of 53-pound swings in five minutes, followed by five Turkish Get Ups at the same weight. Using the book Simple and Sinister as my guide.

4. Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim

Aiming for sometime in late October, straight through.

5. Weekly creative writing

At least 1.5 hours per week. I’ll likely make a routine of blocking off Saturday mornings for this, and reward myself with great coffee.

6. Never late to meetings

I’m not habitually late to meetings, but over the past couple years I wasn’t making it a priority to be on time. It’s not a big problem, but it’s an easy fix, so I’m aiming to fix it this year.

7. Book Bucket List

Sapiens, Homo Deus, The Wizard and The Prophet, The Master and Margarita, among others.

In ancient times having power meant having access to data. Today having power means knowing what to ignore.
